The Ultimate Key Lime Wedding Pie

One of the biggest mistakes my husband and I almost made when we were planning our island wedding in Key West, Florida was with the reception menu. We thought we had all the tips for picking a great reception menu, but we forgot that the reception we were planning was not going to happen in our small town. Our wedding planner made us realize what the point was of having such a beautiful ceremony if we were going to offer the same experience and not embrace all that Key West had to offer. Armed with this realization, we sat back down and rethought our plan of attack.

We knew that we wanted the menu to feature seafood. One of the reasons my husband and I fell in love with the island was because of all the great Key West restaurants and the chance to have amazing food we had never heard of before. We wanted to be sure that our guests would have a chance to experience some of the food that Key West is famous for, like its crab cakes and pink shrimp. That was when my husband had a great idea.

“Why not go all the way,” he said, “and trade in the traditional wedding cake for a key lime wedding pie?” That was exactly what we did. It was one of the biggest pies I had ever seen in my life and it was delicious. Everyone loved it. It was such a memorable part of our island wedding that I don’t even mind the little green stain of it that my husband got on my wedding dress.
