There are certain things in this world that I want to make sure I experience at least once. They range from simple things, like dining in a Michelin starred restaurant, to scary things (skydiving, anyone?) to pretty big things. I want to see the running of the bulls in Pamplona, for instance. It seems like the more I do, the more things get added to that list, however. One of them is attending Fantasy Fest in Key West, Florida.
A month ago, I didn’t even know what that was. My buddies and I were on a golfing and fishing vacation in South Florida and that included a few days in Key West. We got to talking with one of the bartenders, and she mentioned how it was the busiest week of the year, full of absolute insanity, Key West’s version of Mardi Gras. When she heard us talking about maybe coming down, she advised us to start making plans now.
I thought she might be overstating the case a little but when we got home, I did some research and saw how right she was. I immediately booked a hotel room and made reservations at several Key West restaurants, including one for the night of the big parade that overlooks the parade route. Now I need to figure out just how many costumes I need to pack and what parties I am going to try to attend. People say the best plan for something that big is no plan at all, but I know that I want to make sure I do as much of it as I can, just in case it’s the only chance I get to do it.

Even though weddings are still obviously about the bride and groom, the situation that many people find themselves in when getting married these days is not the same as when their parents did. People have moved away from where they grew up, not everyone has the amount of vacation time they used to and, as a result, when people do travel, they want to make the best of it. Island weddings are the perfect way to create an event that will be memorable for the couple as well as exciting enough to encourage as many of the guests to attend as possible. Key West, Florida, already one of the country’s most popular spots for island vacations, is the perfect choice, and here are some tips to make getting hitched go off without a hitch:
1) Key West restaurants are some of the best in the world, and they know how to do wedding receptions right. With over six hundred couples getting married every year on the island, they know what it takes to make destination weddings work. Best of all, by having your wedding there, you can include the freshest seafood and best key lime pie on your menu.
2) The entertainment is already there. You don’t have to worry about planning out every minute of your guests’ experiences while they are in town for a few days. Let them enjoy the patio dining, visit the world famous bars, or even go snorkeling. You’ll see less of them than you thought.
3) Finally, you can go from wedding to honeymoon without packing a bag! Weddings are made to be memorable, so make your memories happen in Key West, Florida.
So many vacations these days are becoming practically interchangeable. A perfect example is if you are a person who loves roller coasters, like I do. You may be tempted to plan your vacations around different amusement parks until you realize that many of the rides are the same from one park to the next, simply with different names. Even if your thought is to visit a different major city every year, you will find yourself eating at the same chain restaurants, shopping in the same chain stores and going to movies in the same chain theaters. You need to start booking destination vacation, and going someplace that is off the beaten path that are unlike anything else in the world. You need to look into booking island vacations in Key West, Florida.
Key West has more to offer than most people might imagine. Regardless of what kind of experience you and your family are looking for, odds are they are going to be able to enjoy it. Beach people have several different options to choose from, from rugged and windswept to sandy and serene. Key West restaurants are among the most famous in the world. The streets are loaded with eclectic one-of-a-kind stores that feature handmade merchandise not available anywhere else (not even online!). History buffs, art appreciators, even fans of the supernatural will find more than they expected. And of course, with the world famous sunset celebration every night, you’ll see why it is a hot spot for island weddings.
Vacation time is limited, so make the most of that time by enjoying leisurely meals of casual elegance while dining outdoors. You never know when a chance like Key West, Florida may come your way.
When you become engaged, you will more than likely be extremely excited to lounge around and enjoy your engagement. This is extremely appropriate for a short amount of time, but eventually you must get off your couch and start the planning.
First things first, figure out how many people you are inviting to your wedding. This will lead to choosing the perfect Key West, Florida venue. Normally, about 30% of the people you invite will not come to your wedding. Do not worry, it is not because they don’t want to come, they may have already planned their vacation or other event they cannot cancel. This brings us to the next tip for your destination wedding: Check local black-out dates. This translates to other events or festivals that may be occurring the same weekend of your Key West wedding. The last thing you want to deal with is not having adequate hotel accommodations or venue space because it is the week of Fantasy Fest and all the best Key West restaurants are and caterers are booked solid. Also, check with local hotels to see which establishment provides the best deal with the most amenities.
Another aspect to focus upon is what ranks the highest on your priority list. If you are set on having a designer gown and expensive venue, then you may want to cut some corners on invitations or flowers. This does not mean settle for anything subpar by way of accessories, it just means you should focus the larger portion of your budget to the things that are most important to you. By staying organized and being realistic, your Key West wedding and reception will be truly unforgettable.
When you are putting together your wedding reception plans, every single detail counts. Entertainment, location, and atmosphere are all key elements to event planning. However, one of the most important things that you end up looking at is the catering services. There are many different factors that go into choosing the food you will be serving at your reception. It helps if you know which guests have special dietary needs, so that you can provide an option for them. There are more and more people these days coming forward with dietary concerns, which include, but aren’t limited to, lactose intolerance, gluten allergies, and an inability to consume meat. Since so many of these health conditions have dietary overlap, knowing whether you need to provide a vegan and gluten-free meal option is key. If you are having a destination wedding in an island location, you may also be considering crab cakes and other types of seafood. Island weddings are particularly appealing for that very fact. However, seafood is one of the types of food people are often allergic to, and are another reason why you should provide a vegan option in your fine dining service. Veggie salads with dressing on the side are a great option, and are almost universally edible. Keeping these factors in mind will help you determine the perfect dinner menu for you and your guests, allowing them to enjoy the casual elegance of your ceremony on a full stomach and with a satisfied palate.
I am not engaged yet, but some television shows have made me get hooked on the idea of having a destination wedding. I can’t think of anything more romantic then having a beautiful island wedding. Not only can you have a gorgeous beach wedding, you also can have your honeymoon in the same place.
While doing research, I have found that destination weddings are becoming more and more popular. There are many places on the East Coast to consider if you are deciding to take this route. When choosing the location for your dream wedding, there are several factors to consider. The location you choose will most definitely affect who will be able to attend your wedding. Choosing an ideal location for all of the people you wish to attend may be taxing, however there are a few ways to help alleviate any issues. One way is to plan your wedding far enough in advance in order to give the people on your guest list ample time for planning. This will enable them to plan any vacation time around your wedding date, and give them plenty of time to set aside any funds they may need to attend your special day.
After you have picked your perfect place to have your wedding, you should highly consider hiring a wedding planner local to your destination. By hiring a planner, you will get the assistance you need with the knowledge and professional affiliates in the area. Hiring someone to assist you will also help in keeping your stress level to a minimum, and allow you to enjoy this special adventure as much as possible. After all, it is your day. Enjoy it!!
